Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon and Ragnar Seek to Quench Medal Lust with Limited Edition Double Medal

The Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon has entered into a cross-promotional partnership with Ragnar, the premier overnight running road and trail series in the United States. The promotion will be centered on Ragnar Relay Series’ offer of an exclusive “double medal” to those that run both the world-renowned marathon and one of Ragnar’s 200-ish mile road relay races.

Runners will become eligible for the double medal when they participate in any 2015 Ragnar road race and the 2016 Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon held on February 14, 2016; or by participating in the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon and Ragnar Relay So Cal (April 1-2), Ragnar Relay Napa Valley or Ragnar Relay Las Vegas next year. “We’re constantly striving to find new ways to reward athletes who exceed extraordinary limits,” stated Tracey Russell, Chief Executive of LA MARATHON LLC. “This innovative partnership allows us to send participants home with extra ‘hardware’ to commemorate their unforgettable experience.”

The more than 100,000 runners that participate annually in Ragnar’s relays covet the limited edition medal series and plan their race calendars around each paired double medal race. Each double medal is massive, sprinkled with double entendre and adorned with two hefty bottle openers for finish line festivities. The collaboration with the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon marks the first double medal featuring a race outside of the Ragnar Relay Series. “This unique partnership allows Ragnar to incentivize more marathoners to take on the challenge of overnight running relays,” said Chris Infurchia, CEO of Ragnar. “Completing both a marathon and a 200-mile relay is an amazing feat worthy of a double medal.”

On October 21, two designs will be revealed to the public for voting on Ragnar’s Facebook page to determine which medal will be produced and awarded to those conquering both formats. Runners can register for the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon by visiting lamarathon.com. Runners may register for the 2016 Ragnar Relay So Cal at ragnarrelay.com/race/southerncalifornia. Registration for Ragnar Relay Napa and Ragnar Relay Las Vegas will open before the first of the year.
