Pamela was diagnosed with Behçet's disease in 2013, a rare autoimmune disorder caused by inflammation of the blood vessels. She is an active member of The American Behcet’s Disease Association and activist for the #BehcetsWarrior community, corresponding with women and men living with Behcet’s Disease around the world. In 2020, Pamela launched the care package community program: We Care When You Flare, operated under WE CARE WHEN Inc., which aims to create awareness for health causes worldwide through events and programs.
How do you hope to inspire others?
I'm reminded everyday when I received messages from men and women around the world who live with Behcet's disease that I should keep on talking, keep on being vocal about my symptoms, how I strengthen my mind and body, etc. because I realize that my activism allows others to speak out and feel more confident about who they are and the disease that they live with.
What is your passion and why?
Running mountains at sunrise because you can't beat the serenity and the views, eating good food with great company because that brings me pure joy, dancing and teaching dance.
What does living an active lifestyle mean to you?
Spending time in nature and getting a good sweat on a daily or every other day basis! As a competitive runner and dance teacher, I find pure joy in challenging my body to new fitness limits. Living an active lifestyle also means eating right. While I love my donuts and boba... I do look at my food as fuel for my athletic performance.
Goals for 2020-2021:
• Keep running mountains at sunrise in high elevation
• Participate in more outdoor bouldering competitions
• Cross that LA Marathon finish line with my friends
